Power Corrupts Absolutely

The political landscape has become one where power trumps principle. And so everything is fair game. Previous commitments, recorded comments, life saving decisions, or the lack thereof, are sacrificed on the altar of Power. Facts one day are lies the next, honor is an abstract concept, promises are meaningless. Moral and ethical rules of the road are ignored in the name of partisanship. Institutions that, for the most part, were outside the partisan scrum, have become so politicized as to be beyond repair. Racial divides are consciously being exploited for political gain. Reelection and maintaining the party in power ,or not, has taken precedence over needed national policy in many areas.
So what to do? Our voices count. So instead of showing up on a street corner in camouflage with AK47's slung across our shoulders or violently destroying property under the banner of protest, let's make sure that we vote. Nonviolent change is possible, but we have to care, we have to tune out the noise of biased political ads and rhetoric, think for ourselves and exercise our constitutional rights.
