According to news reports and Trumps' own comments on Fox news, he and his political allies are busy drafting policies which will significantly expand Presidential powers, once he regains the Presidency. For those who think that is a good idea, I invite you to consider that the framers of our Constitution created the Separation of Powers doctrine for the express purpose of prohibiting a "power grab" by one of the three branches of government. Still not convinced? Then study the history of autocratic leaders who, once elected or having assumed power, immediately get to work either eliminating and/or gaining greater control over quasi-independent government organizations which are in a position to challenge the autocrat.
The Republican front runner wants to gut the Department of Justice, he wants to significantly replace current civil servants hired on the basis of merit with individuals loyal to the party and himself. Therefore, instead of merit becoming a guiding criteria for hire, loyalty will be the deciding factor.
In such an environment, fealty to Trump, fear of retribution for speaking out, anything short of kneeling at the throne of Trump and kissing his a.. - er ring will reap serious negative consequences.
But don't take my word for it. Educate yourself on the rise of autocrats such as Mussolini, Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Castro, (the list goes on) and you will notice common cause with the pronouncements of Trump and his minions.
Book banning, control of the press, vilification of competing ideas, fear mongering, pitting citizens against each other through demonization of groups by religion, race, ethnicity, income, etc. are stalwart methods by which autocratic minded individuals will seek power and subsequently control those who follow. Those who do not become the enemy of the state.
Those who protest that it can't happen here,(the US), look around. It is happening and 70 plus million individuals are fully embracing the slide into hell.
