When you scratch below the veneer of what we call civilization and all that comes with it, when it comes to human behavior we seem to be stuck in the middle ages. How else does one explain the passive acceptance, even unquestioned loyalty that the masses bequeath upon "their leader". Where the rules of the game are different for the connected and influencers from those of everyone else. Where those in power tell you that they are looking out for your best interests when in fact their goal is to consolidate power and wealth. Where the tools employed to keep the masses in control include control of information disseminated and the creation of scapegoats, thus assuring division instead of unity, thereby making it easier to stay in power.

Dark view of history? Not really. Yes, some nation states were/are more benevolent than others but in the end those who rise to the top as leaders do so either by station such as Royalty or more often through the consolidation of power, influence, wealth and control of information and the willingness of some to support and set aside their own ethics and sense of morality in order to operate within the circle of power.

Which brings us to today. We have a President who tells us that he is for the common man, that he understands the needs of the common man and the daily life struggles that the common man experiences. Wow. So, someone who grew up surrounded by incredible wealth, who never rubbed shoulders with the common man understands, who by his own statements believes himself above the rest of us says he is looking out for our best interests and wants to make America great again for all of us. And we believe him. Despite the overwhelming evidence to date. A president who tells us that he is for equality, yet the rules of the game are different for his supporters that his detractors. As a consequence, he commutes criminals but forces out career officers who believed they were doing their duty in defending what they know to be right.
